Recycling Electronics Responsibly

I recently read a good article on Blue Planet Green Living called Computer Recycling – The Downside of Upgrading by Caryn Green. I thought the article did a really great job of highlighting the global issues that we face with recycling computers. From overseas dumping and identity theft to data privacy and the environmental impact, it always amazes me that there are companies out there who still offer “free” recycling services--and client’s who use those services.

Basically---it’s not really free. The cost is ginormous (if that’s a word). Whether it is the cost to the environment when these companies simply pack your stuff in containers and dump it overseas, or the hidden fees, such as higher taxes for municipal electronic destruction services--it’s not really free.

If you’ve ever used one of these companies, did you get proof that the equipment you recycled was handled in an environmentally safe manner? Mercury. Lead. Cadmium. All of these are extremely toxic to humans and all of them can be found in modern electronics. By leaving these in a landfills you risk contamination of the soil and water that eventually finds its way to people.

From day one, eCycle has been committed to making a difference by keeping electronics out of landfills. So how do we ensure that sensitive company data has really been destroyed and prevent electronics from being dumped in landfills and how do YOU know we really did?

First of all, we track your equipment by weight to the recycling facility, where we completely destroy your old electronics by a shredding process--not reselling. We then provide you with an Equipment Manifest, a Certificate of Recycling, and a Certificate of Data Destruction, which will guarantee the appropriate destruction and recycling of computers and electronic equipment that contain your company’s sensitive data.

So when it comes to recycling computers, fax machines, printers, cell phones, monitors, and anything else that is piling up in the back office, give us a call. You won’t regret choosing an electronic recycling service that makes responsible recycling a priority.
